The San Diego Natural History Museum is dedicated to providing quality science education to students in our community. We offer nearly 30 different school programs for Pre-K through 8th grades based on natural history themes and California state standards. Our focus is on earth and life sciences with programs like “read a rock”, “incredible insects” and the overwhelmingly popular “Autumn Harvest”, instructed by museum trained Docents and professional educators.

ZU2U brings professional animal handlers to CVHS to present exotic reptiles and arthropods to students. Students choose their favorite animal and receive further training to present their animals at the SDFSE and middle schools in the Sweetwater Union High School District.

Ocean Discovery Institute offers programs for classrooms, after-school programs, home schools, church groups, scout groups or any community-based organization. Each program stands alone or can be included in a larger unit with a central focus. Lessons include a lead
instructor and all materials necessary for the activity.

The Fleet runs full-day camp from april 2-6. Classes are for grades 1-2 and 3-4. this fun, educational, hands-on, astronomy-themed camp is designed to compliment our “Black Holes” exhibition. Participants may sign up for a single day or enroll for the entire week.

Six week volunteer career development experience for high school students at UC San Diego.

“The Sky Tonight” presents the sky in San Diego as it appears on the night of the planetarium show, as well as special topics in astronomy.

Girls-only Saturdays filled with new challenges, hands-on activities and interaction with local women scientists. Throughout the year, we explore an array of fields including biology, chemistry, engineering, environmental science, physics, robotics, and much more! Themes change every month.

Technology Workshop (SWEET) is an annual collaboration with San Diego Girl Scouts Imperial Council that provides an incredible day full of engineering-related activities for nearly 200 5th to 8th grade girls. Attendees participate in challenging and creative engineering activities that demonstrated the fun and excitement of engineering careers. Girls that participate not only benefit from the hands-on activities and the exposure to female engineers, but they also earn a SWF patch and a T-shirt.

Creek to Bay Cleanup is a countywide event made possible by thousands of San Diego residents helping to beautify and restore our outdoor areas. ILACSD coordinates close to 70 cleanup sites throughout San Diego county from Cceanside to San Ysidro and Ocean Beach to El Cajon. All ages are welcome with a parent or guardian. High school students need a parent or guardian to sign a waiver. The event takes place all over San Diego County, please check our website for locations.

LSSI increases awareness of the life sciences industry and related fields of research for students in the San Diego region. Students participating in the eight-week internship learn how to formulate and test hypotheses and prepare and draw conclusions from experiments.

This unique educational experience takes science out of the classroom and makes learning fun. Activities include a “Fire and Ice”
show presented by the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center where students learn about the states of matter, combustion and liquid nitrogen in this visually thrilling program. Ecovivarium presents a show on natural science featuring all kinds of snakes and creepy crawlies. General Atomics puts on a show about physics. And most importantly, Padres player appearances with emphasis on the importance of education and
much more!

We are dedicated to our threefold mission: to provide ocean science education, to interpret Scripps research and to promote conservation. Our school programs are structured to provide interactive, inquiry-based science programming infused with current Scripps Oceanography research. Classroom lessons are aligned with the California State Science Content Standards and with National Science Standards.

The San Diego Natural History Museum offers weekly half-day camps from June 11 to August 20. Camps include museum exploration, garden
hikes, animal visits and encounters with real scientists! Join our museum-trained naturalists for a week of fun creativity and friendship. Summer camp ATtheNAT is where it’s at! Enrollment begins March 15 for members and March 19 for nonmembers. Camps often sell out.

The Scripps Research Institute’s High School Student Research Education Program engages students in contemporary issues in biomedical research and provides hands-on laboratory experience and mentorship.
