The San Diego Festival of Science & Engineering is excited to announce the launch of THE BRIGHT IDEA SOCIETY, providing three awards for San Diego County K-12 Science and Engineering Clubs. The award will recognize and support existing science/engineering clubs and provide them with a venue at the Festival’s grand finale EXPO DAY on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at PETCO Park to showcase their ideas to thousands of Festival participants of all ages.
Any teacher/advisor with an already-existing STEM-related club may apply. Five applicant clubs at each of the K-5, 6-8, and 9-12 levels will be awarded semi-finalist status and an award of $100. One winner in each level will then be selected to receive an additional $500 towards club operating costs (total=$600), a 10’x20’ booth (with electricity) at EXPO DAY to showcase their project in a hands-on, interactive way, and a bus to and from PETCO PARK on EXPO DAY. The total award has a $1,500 value. In addition, all 15 semi-finalists will be recognized on the Festival website, and the three science/engineering clubs will receive special recognition on stage at EXPO DAY.
The three science/engineering clubs will be videotaped at EXPO DAY, and the video will be presented on the Festival’s website following EXPO DAY.
