Art of Science Learning Conference
The Learning Worlds Institute announces its culminating Art of Science Learning Conference at the California Institute of Telecommunications and Information Technology (Calit2), University of California San Diego, June 14-15, 2011. The conference – part of a National Science Foundation-funded initiative exploring how the arts can strengthen science education and spark creativity in the 21st-Century American workforce – will bring together scientists, educators, teaching artists, business leaders and policymakers from across the country. The proceedings will showcase arts-based educational methodologies that develop collaborative and critical thinkers for the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) workforce; share the latest neuroscientific and educational research on arts-based learning; and explore the connection between the arts, innovation and economic competitiveness.

INTEL INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE & ENGINEERING FAIR MAY 8-13, 2011, Los Angeles, CA Convention Center
Students from around the world, representing 65 countries, gathered for the 62nd Annual International Science & Engineering Fair sponsored by Intel.
The 57th Annual Greater San Diego Science & Engineering Fair (held March 21 – 26, 2011, in Balboa Park) selected 8 Sweepstakes winning students and escorted them and their projects to the INTEL INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE & ENGINEERING FAIR last week; these students came home from this prestigious event with a total of 13 awards!
Only 25% of the 1,500 students who participate at ISEF win an award. This year, 100% of our San Diego students were presented with awards at ISEF! Our students received 9 special awards and 4 grand awards. In addition, two students from our San Diego Fair advanced through the CA State Science Fair to ISEF with their team project. They ALSO earned an award! Score: San Diego 100%!

IN MARCH 2011
“Excite Your Mind” is the theme for a week of events to engage San Diego’s
youth in science, engineering, and technology careers.
San Diego (January 10, 2011) – The San Diego Science Festival, the largest celebration of science on the West Coast, is announcing the return of its annual free celebration that offers content-rich, interactive learning experiences for kids of all ages. Bringing together hundreds of innovative local organizations and individuals, the San Diego Science Festival demonstrates that careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) are accessible and exciting pathways to a better future. This weeklong exploration of science, engineering and technology will begin March 19, 2011, and culminate with EXPO DAY at PETCO Park on March 26, 2011.
