The San Diego Science Festival — a celebration showcasing San Diego as an internationally recognized leader in science and technology — invites you to join the fun!

Submit a proposal to run a program or host an event to be included in the festival, which will run days, nights & weekends from March 1st to April 5th, 2009.

Programs may include lectures, demonstrations, performances, contests, activities for families, exhibits, tours, workshops, or creative new ideas we’ve never imagined.
We are looking for ideas that celebrate science and technology in ways that combine spirit, interactivity and audience appeal.

Festival participants will be selected through a curated process to ensure quality. Selection criteria will be based on audience appeal, technical feasibility, and site availability. Proposals will be judged on a first come, first serve basis, and venues will fill quickly, so don’t delay!

Bacterial Transformation with Fluorescent Proteins:
The world renowned Dr. RogerTsien Lab at UCSD has developed numerous different colors of fluorescent protein genes which are being used by scientists to follow cell reactions and observe cell parts. These genes have been cloned into plasmids which transform bacteria into all the colors of the rainbow. BioBridge has optimized the transformation protocol for use in high school biology classes. We will be prepared to do hands-on demonstrations of this process in Balboa Park.
